Something like this?
http://uk.farnell.com/oki-metcal/mfr-dsi/desoldering-system-internal-air/dp/1161524
but OBVIOUSLY a lot cheaper!

I have one made by Aoyue I think it's the model 2702 which has hot air, desolder gun and soldering iron.
But this one : http://www.pcb-soldering.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=92 is more like the one you linked to.

Cheers.

Phill.

Indeed my 2702 was a birthday present last year, I ummed and arred for years about buying a sucking soldering iron, wondering if I could justify the expense.....now I wonder how the hell I did without it, makes removing DIP ICs a samn site less dangerous (less prone to broken pins, lifted tracks etc).

The real ammusing part was using last years birthday present to repair (part of) this years, namely the Einstein 80 col cards....

Cheers.

Phill.

I must however stress that though mine is the same brand the station part of it is different, however the actual heater / sucker part is the same as mine, so asuming that the station bit is up to spec you should be sorted.

This is the one I have : http://www.pcb-soldering.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=69 Still half the price of the one in your first post tho.

Cheers.

Phill.

I have this one -  http://www.pcb-soldering.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=92 based on Phills recommendation - great price and very easy to use / maintain. Already had quite a bit of use taking caps and DIPs off and re-doing dodgy joints.

I think I will be getting one of those for RCM after the show - if we have sufficient funds.

I'll be very interested in finding out if they're any good - I've been eyeing these up for a while too

I've got one of these:

http://uk.farnell.com/duratool/d00672/desoldering-station-uk-eu-plug/dp/1498361

it's very basic and once you learn the rules it does a great job 🙂

Same as mine. Has a couple of annoying quirks but can't complain for the price

Yep, get the heat right and once you've mastered the 'desolder wiggle' with the tip you're golden.

Make sure the barrel doesn't block, and clean the filter now and again. This can be easier said than done but a little patience makes up for a £250 difference in price.

On and one tip - don't go mad with the heat setting for prolonged periods and melt the solder trap. <coughs>. That said, an entire replacement gun was £17. About the price of a grub screw on a Weller unit 😉

Highly recommended for a beginner unit, whilst you're saving for one like Phill's.

Yeah. Me too. Oddly, it has the same case as my "Maplin-Special" temperature-controlled soldering iron. On the iron, the Maplin badge covers the hole where the vacuum tube connects to the case on the desoldering-station.
